We got our bags packed and headed out. For some reason we've made it a tradition to get In n Out every time we leave St. George so that is just what we did! We ate our burgers, fries and shakes on the way home. I drove the whole way again to avoid getting sick so Derek caught up on some Angry Birds skills.

We called my mom as we were getting off the freeway to tell her we were close. She suggested that we go unload and unpack since the boys were napping so we did just that. How awesome to have that done and out of the way so quickly?! When we got to my parent's the Lincoln and Carter were both still asleepq. We couldn't wait very long before we had to sneak up and get them out. They were a little confused at first, but we were all very happy to see each other. They were even lucky enough to get nice, fresh haircuts from Grandma that morning! We went downstairs and found some of the surprises we had picked up for them throughout our vacation and visited with my mom for a bit.

It was a wonderful vacation and so rejuvenating. We loved returning home as a family and we were happy and ready to jump back into life!

Golfing, BYU, and a Concrete

We started our last full day in St. George by getting up so early to golf in Hurricane at Sand Hollow. I knew the weather was going to warm up in the afternoon so I wore sandals and a light jacket. I ended up having to put my golf shoes on before Derek got started on his round and I doubled up with his jacket on top of mine. It was FREEZING! They paired us up with three old men and it was a blast! I drove the cart and took pictures. Someday I want to golf good enough that I can join Derek on courses like this when we're vacationing.

After the round we stopped at Outback for lunch. We had been craving an Awesome Blossom from there for months! It was yu-um!

By the time we finished eating it was time to cruise back to the condo and get cleaned up and ready to watch the BYU game. It was actually really nice to be able to sit, uninterrupted and not feeling guilty and watch a game with Derek!

Derek promised he'd take me to Neilson's Custard for a caramel/praline concrete. Derek opted for another Cafe Rio meal so I grabbed mine and joined him over there. We were exhausted by that time and decided we had better get back and take advantage of our last restful night of sleep.

Update on the boys: Derek's mom and little brother Cody were so kind and drove up to our house to spend a day with the boys. They just hung out at our house and Grandpa Peterson even showed up to eat lunch with them. The boys thought that was awesome and were totally bummed that he had to head back to work after lunch! We are so grateful that they got to spend time with Grandma and Grandpa Peterson and with Uncle Cody. Carli picked them up that evening and took them home. They got to play over at Grandma and Grandpa Sharp's house until Grandma took them back home for bed. They were in such good hands!

Heading Back Up North...

On Thursday morning we planned to head back up to St. George to spend our last two nights of the trip there. We were slow getting ready again. I don't know. There's just something about being able to take a long shower and actually spend time on make-up and hair that appeals to me when I don't have two rambunctious toddlers demanding every second of my attention. Anyway, when we got down to the lobby to check-out of the hotel, Derek realized that his debit card was not to be found. We thought and thought and figured that it had to be at the Rainforest Cafe from the night before. And after some phone calls we found that it was there...phew! The Rainforest Cafe was inside of the MGM, but it was about a half hour walk to get there and back, so that put us back a bit.

When we got in the car Derek decided he wanted to try and book it to Mesquite to play golf so we put the peddle to the metal. Upon our arrival in Mesquite and a quick phone call up to the course, Derek realized that he wouldn't get to finish the course before sundown and decided it wasn't worth the money to play a partial round. That was fine, but the biggest bummer of the day was knowing that we hurried out of Vegas so quickly for nothing and that we didn't get to go to Gold and Silver Pawn Shop. No judging, but we really get into watching Pawn Stars! Derek loves the history side of it and I've found it quite interesting as well. We're still super sad that we missed out on going there, or even driving by it. I guess that means we'll just have to go back again right?

We went on to St. George and finally got our first meal of the day at 3pm. We were famished and we both agreed on a classic, but very delicious Cafe Rio meal. And it did not disappoint! We then made a few stops at Uinta Golf and the mall. Just for the record, the St. George mall stinks. When are they going to update that place and get some new stores? I did find the cutest dress in the world at Bohme so I guess it wasn't a total waste. Afterward we went to our condo (found on VRBO again)... a cute one bedroome place up at the Sports Village.

We got ready to go see Thriller at the Tuacahn that evening. We had planned on it being outside, but then as we were getting ready I started thinking that it would probably be at the inside stage since it was the end of October. Derek didn't agree with me, but we both dressed in short sleeves with thin jackets. I knew I was wrong when we pulled into the parking lot and everyone was dressed warm and carrying piles of blankets. Ooops! Luckily they had hot chocolate for sale and we each had another jacket in the car that we grabbed at intermission. That was our first time seeing Thriller and it was awesome! The dancers were amazing and I've decided now that I want to learn the Thriller dance now. Anyone in? In fact, we were both so intrigued by the dancing that we watched the Thriller music video when we got back to the condo and a few other Michael Jackson music videos. They're so strange, but so interesting.

Update on the boys: Thursday morning was Lincoln's Halloween party at preschool. I was pretty devastated when I realized that I wouldn't be home to get him all ready for that, but my sweet mom took over and did a fantastic job. She even talked him into letting her paint a patch on his eye. He looked awesome. They went home with my mom after preschool for lunch and naps. That evening we talked to them before taking off to Thriller. They seemed like they were having a blast at Grandma's house. The only concern Lincoln had that night was what direction we traveled to get to St. George. He wanted to know what way we went to get on the freeway and what we passed to get down there. Silly guy! My mom took them home to sleep that night and Carli met her later to stay as well. It was so nice to know they were sleeping well in their own beds every night. I found out after we got home that my mom and Carli had a hard time sleeping in our bed because of the little lights on the computer and printer. That makes it even sweeter that they went to our house with the boys every night.

Viva Las Vegas!

We were totally lazy when we woke up on Wednesday morning. Neither of us were able to sleep in initially. I woke up and made some calls to make sure all was going well at home and Derek's phone was ringing off the hook as he had several closings happening that morning. But after laying around til about 9:45, dozing in and out of sleep, we decided we had better get going on the day. We took our time getting ready. It was weird to not be in hurry for once and it actually took us a really long time to get ready because we'd get side-tracked laughing and talking. We finally made it to The Studio Cafe for breakfast at around noon. Derek tried steak and eggs for his first time and I enjoyed biscuits and gravy...a childhood favorite.

We planned to spend the day on the Strip just walking and stopping whenever or wherever. We stopped in little souvenir shops and found a little Angry Birds t-shirt for Lincoln. He's obsessed with Angry Birds and even more obsessed with wearing t-shirts of things he's obsessed with. Derek thinks it's adorable, but I must admit that it drives me nuts most of the time!

Next we made the classic stops to the M&M and Coke factories. I'm would usually never get suckered into buying anything in those stores but since the boys would be hoping for surprises when we got home, we couldn't resist the M&M light sabers we found. Lincoln has been wanting a red light saber since we went to Disneyland in March. Since Santa is bringing him that toy, we couldn't pass up a mini one filled with candy to tide him over for two more months.

We were looking forward to going to the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace. Most of the shops are way to awesome for us, but we had a good time looking at all of the things we could never afford! We got totally sucked into H&M and both of us stocked up on clothes for our birthday and Christmas. Eeek! I can't wait. Oh how excited I am for H&M to join is in Salt Lake soon! (Does anyone know when it's really coming? I always look for a date, but haven't found one yet.)

When we realized what time it was after our shopping spree at H&M we had to book it back to our hotel. My little brother Corbin had received his mission call that day! We were sad that we missed being there, but we were able to be there via Skype. I heart Skype! I was able to talk to all of the family members that came over and then we were able to watch and listen to him very clearly. I seriously felt like I was really a part of the whole thing. And he is going to Bangkok, Thailand speaking the Thai language, leaving March 7th! He's such a stud and I know he'll be a great missionary. Corbin and I have become really close over the past few years. Bless his heart, if he gets talking to me long enough, I just ramble on and on about my life as a wife and Mom...not exactly what an 18 year old wants to hear about, but he is such a good listener! And I have tried to be there for him too. I'm going to miss him so much, but I am so excited to share his missionary experiences with him through letters and emails.

We had tickets to see Lion King at Mandalay Bay so we booked to catch the monorail over there. We hadn't eaten since breakfast because we were stuffed all day, but I was starting to get hungry and I knew I'd be famished if I didn't eat anything before the play got out. Our only option was to grab a thing of nuggets from McD's to eat on the monorail. Gross huh? But, you wouldn't believe how amazing those nuggets tasted in my starving stomach. Mmm. The Lion King was phenomenal! We pretty much haven't stopped talking about it since we left. Go see it!

Horrible pic, but it's all we have

To make up for our lack of food during the day, we ate at Rainforest Cafe on our way back to our room. We've heard people rave about the food, and it was alright, but not amazing. I made Derek get a picture by the gorilla in front of the restaurant because we just watched Zookeeper last week. The gorilla here looks just like the one in the movie, and we loved the gorilla!

We made it back to our room and Derek tried to keep me awake to watch Funny Farm. He can't believe I haven't seen it and it was one of the only things on Netflix we haven't seen. Their instant viewing selection pretty much stinks, unless it's cartoons for the kids.

Update on the boys: Heidi went to our house early Wednesday morning to take over while my Mom went to the temple and Carli went to school and work. She did an awesome job getting the kids ready for the day and keeping them entertained for the morning. She took the boys to play with Ella, Hannah, Crew and Ava for the afternoon. A big thanks to Kristin too. She definitely had her hands full with 6 kids 5 and under, but she's always more than willing to help out! My Mom picked up the boys in the early evening to get them cleaned up for the family gathering that night. Then her and Carli took them home that night to sleep. The boys had a fun day and we loved seeing their cute faces on Skype...although, apparently it's all good that Derek left the boys, but it's really not cool that I did. Lincoln and Carter are willing to talk to him on Skype or on the phone, but they're not that stoked to talk to me. Carter especially. Lincoln knew what was coming, but Carter feels totally abandoned by the one who's there for him all day every day. I can't wait to get home on Saturday and win him over again :)

A Little Getaway

Derek and I have been talking for the last few months about how we need a break. A break from the crazy day-to-day business that fills up every minute of our lives. We feel like we have so much to be grateful for. Derek's job is extremely busy right now, and in this economy we couldn't be more happy with it. His job allows me to stay home and be a full-time Mom to the most beautiful little boys in the world. And I LOVE my job. But what was lacking in all of that was finding time to spend together, just talking about whatever and remembering just why we fell in love in the first place! We decided that this last week in October we'd take a few days off and catch up on "us". We spent a few month looking at all of our options, but just like always, life got crazy and the trip-planning got put aside. I decided we'd have to wait and do it another time, but two Sunday's ago Derek decided it had to happen. Since we were way last minute we picked a relaxing, quick trip to Vegas and St. George. We had a week to throw it all together and find sitters for the kids. For a minute it felt like nothing was working out, but last minute it all worked out for us. We are so blessed to have such wonderful family who happily stepped in and watched our kids for us. It's so comforting to know they are with people who love them like we do.

We took off Tuesday afternoon at around 4 and drove straight down to Vegas. I am usually the driver since I get carsick so easy. I was proud of myself for making it in 6 hours even with slowing during a nasty storm and stopping for a little Subway in Beaver. It was just after 9 when we got there, but we were totally pooped. I told Derek that I was more excited to go to bed than anything! And not just to go to bed, but to go to bed in a nice room, without doing the whole bedtime routine that we've grown so accustomed to doing each night.

We called the kids to say goodnight. They were thrilled to have Carli and Corbin staying with them at our house. Lincoln is always begging for a sleepover with them, and he sure got what he wanted this week! After talking to the kids we turned a Netflix movie on and I was out in 5 minutes.

The only pics I took that day...Lincoln was insisting that we send him a picture of the "elabator" at our hotel. Every time we talk to him he want to know where we are in conjunction to the elevator. Funny kid!

And a pic of Derek on our bed. We loved the place we stayed. We found it on VRBO. It was actually a condo in the Signature Towers at MGM. We'd definitely stay there again!

(Derek does the thumbs-up in any picture I send to the boys and they like to do it right back at him)

Update on the boys: Carli stayed with the boys at our house that afternoon until they woke up from their naps. She took them home afterward where they ate McDonald's, Lincoln helped Grandpa and Corbin rake leaves, and Carter took a ride in the car to get the mail with Grandma. That night Carli and Corbin took them to our house to sleep.

What are your secrets?

We are booking a trip to Disneyland! A couple of weeks ago we had the worst of it....I hope. It was Tuesday night when it all started. Derek had a football game at 5:20. That's stretching it to get us all there at that time, but we hadn't missed a game. However, since Derek is the only one with kids, he tends to get there BARELY on time for the game to start. I was determined to have the kids and I totally ready when he got home, and to have the car packed and have his football attire ready for him to throw on. All was going well until I left the kids alone for no more thatn 3 minutes. Seriously. I had done glitter toes that morning while the kids were in the bath (so no one could bug me) and that must have sparked an idea in Lincoln's little head. While I was slipping on my shoes and socks he snuck in to the bathroom and found some beautiful bright pink nail polsih. He has always been good at getting lids off of things with litte effort and this time was no exception. He painted his toes and feet hot pink, painted Carter's toes and pants, and splattered it all over our nearly white carpet. It was a moment when I had reason to be my maddest, but I was so stunned I couldn't say a word, let alone yell. I quickly grabbed Lincoln and set him in the tub so he couldn't get nail polish ANYWHERE else. Then I got the polish off of Carter's toes and stripped his pants off of him. I made an attempt at the carpet, but the polish hardly budged. When I went back in to get Lincoln he had got a hold of a bottle of baby powder and dumped it all over his toes and legs (making it stick to the polish) and emptied the rest of it in the tub. All he could say was, "Mom! It's so pretty! Me piggies look so cute and pink!" When Derek got home we weren't ready, the boys had nail polish all over them, and Lincoln was talking about how pretty he looked. Derek wasn't thrilled about any of it, but the only thing we knew how to do right then was to chuckle.

Two days later I took the boys to get their pictures taken by our friend Laurie (http://www.lauriemillarphotography.blogspot.com). The boys were anything but charming for the pictures and we were all exhausted when we got home. I took Carter up and got him down for a nap. On my way out Lincoln greeted me and told me that he had sprayed an ant with ant spray. I panicked since ant spray isn't really kid friendly, but I thought I had put it up after using it earlier that day. And indeed I had. But no worries, Lincoln poured an entire bottle of 409, and entire bottle of CLR and and sprayed pledge on the ant. He was dead for sure, and my kitchen floor was a sticky, slippery swimming pool of cleaners. Yeah, dont' judge, my cleaners weren't properly stored obviously. Anyway, again, I was totally stunned so I set Lincoln in the family room and went to work soaking up, scrubbing and drying the mess. I ran the towels up to the washer and in that little window of time Linc got a bottle of baby lotion and smothered himself in it...head to toe. It was caked in his hair, on his hands and legs and all over his new shirt. Ugh. And as if we didn't already have enough going on that day, we had scheduled to meet up with some friends that night. What am I going to do with this child?

He's already learning the art of distraction to try to get out of trouble. The next morning he was playing in the bath with Carter and got frustrated so he leaned over and bit Carter on the upper back part of his leg. Holy cow! Carter didn't even know what to do with himself and I was ticked! I grabbed Lincoln and threw him in the crib (he had always HATED the crib) while I comforted and dressed Carter. When it was time to get Lincoln out I tried to calmly talk with him and explain what he had done wrong and why I was so upset. Everytime I'd start talking he'd quickly interrupt me by saying, "Mom, hey, Mom , do you hear the firetruck? Did you see fireworks..." Just a bunch of random jibber jabber. And the most frustrating part of it all was that it'd make me laugh everytime!

We haven't had anything as catastrophic as those things this week, but I think that's mostly due to the fact that I'm watching him like a hawk. I cannot believe that my baby is one already! He's at the perfect age right now though, and we are enjoying every minute of this little guy. We did an Elmo party for him (something I swore I would NEVER do for my kids...I always thought character parties were dumb)...the things we do for the ones we love! We celebrated a few days after his birthday so that the family could all be together...we're so lucky to have such support!

Thank goodness for Little Ceasars. I could've used help with just about anything so I let her pick and she said she'd make the cakes! What?! I'd take her amazing cake-decorating skill over mine all day, so of course I said yes! She made a cute Elmo head for the guests and a little Dorothy cake (Elmo's pet goldfish). Thanks MOM!! Everyone looks forward to watching the one-year olds destroy their cakes, and Carter didn't disappoint. He was so exhausted after such a big day!

Some things about Carter:

-He started walking at 11 months. He just had to keep up with (and fight back with) Lincoln.

-He has 4 teeth on the top and 4 on the bottom. He hated baby food from day one, so we just started giving him what we were eating. He was still slow to pick it up, but nothing phases him now. He loves any and all food. And I'm not complaining.

-He tells me when he wants to go to sleep. Who knew a kid could do that?! He gets his blanket and tells me, "Nah nigh". So sweet. He goes to sleep on his own too...never thought I'd see a child do that either. He takes 2 2 hour naps each day. He still doesn't sleep through the night though. Lincoln didn't until 22 months, so I'm thinking I have a good 9 months.

-He says "mama", "dada", "uh oh" and "mmmm" and "what's dat?" . We say hi to a picture of Jesus everytime we come down our stairs and one day he repeatedly said, "Dedus, dedus..." So precious. But he hasn't said it yet.

-He loves anyone to hide from him and then chase after him on their hands and knees. It creates lots of noise with the banging on the floor and the screaming/laughing baby, but we do it all day and night. Sorry neighbors!

-He's a Mama's boy, especially when he's tired, hungry, or sad. But, he gets so excited to see Daddy every night. Derek has a special father/son bond with each of the boys, and I'm so grateful for that.

-He's learning to be a stinker already. He pushes Lincoln, or hits him on top of the head. Hmmmm...I wonder who he learns it from? But, I hear Lincoln saying all day, "NO pushing Carter!!"

-He loves cars, balls, books, and bathtime.

-He still nurses. Not a lot, and not very long. I thought I was going to wean early, but when it came down to it, I've had a hard time. He's the baby and I'm in no real rush to stop.

-He's such a joy to us. Derek and I are dorks. We sit around all night staring at our kids, and talking about how they're are easily the cutest on the planet. Come on...you all do that too! But Carter is adorable and he makes us smile all day. They were a hit and the costumes were so fitting for those two golf nuts! Carter was only 10 days old for Halloween but we couldn't miss out on all of the fun! We went the day before to a parade at Derek's work, and to a grandkids party at my parents house. Then on Halloween we went to Derek's parents to trick-or-treat. Linc liked looking at people's dogs at each house more than the candy he got there. Needless to say, we only went to 6 houses...nice!

Carter

Carter arrived on October 21st and boy were we happy he did! He weighed 8 lbs. and was 21 3/4 inches long...a big boy for being 10 days early! We're thrilled to have a new addition to our family!

It all started on Tuesday, October 20th. I had gone shopping at the mall with a few friends and our kids earlier on that day. By the time I made it out of there I was completely exhausted and thankfully, Lincoln was too. When we got home we both crashed for almost 3 straight hours. I woke up at 4:30 and got cleaned up so that we could run to Target for a few things. I felt a little nauseous, but continued on my way, thinking that it was tiredness, and hunger that were bugging me. By the time I got to the Target parking lot I knew that I was more than tired or hungry. I rushed over to my parents house since it was close and so that they could help me with Lincoln until Derek was off of work. I barely made it there in time to run in the house and throw up. Ugh! I had the flu. But, because I was throwing up I began to have major contractions that were really close together. I decided that it would be hard to tell if I was actually in labor or if it was just the throwing up that was causing the contractions so I called Derek to come and pick me up and take me to the hospital just to be safe. After he picked me up we ran home so I could shower and grab my bag, and then we headed over to the hospital. When I walked in they made me grab a mask...gross! Who wants to breathe into a mask after they've been throwing up?! Then they had me get into a gown and a bed so they could monitor my contractions. Sure enough, they were 2-5 minutes apart, but I was only at a 3+! After an hour they checked again and I had still made no progress so they decided to send me home. I was disappointed because my contractions were painful and close together and I was still really sick so I didn't know how I was going to know to go back to the hospital! We got home around 11 that night, but I wasn't able to go to sleep. I was in and out of the bath, and moaning and groaning all night! Poor Derek and Lincoln!

Derek gave me a blessing around 2:30 am (I'm so grateful for the priesthood) and I was finally able to crash at 7 am. Lincoln was up around 8 so I got up and tried to make it as normal of a morning as possible. By this time I had stopped throwing up, but I was still really weak. My contractions were worse, but were spread out to about 10 minutes apart. As the day progressed my contractions were getting harder and more painful, but still wouldn't come consistantly or close enough together, and there was no way I was going to the hospital again until it was the real thing! Carli came to help with Lincoln that afternoon when she got done with school and then decided to take him to the highschool football game so that I could get some rest. My Dr. called me that afternoon as well and told me to take Tylenol and come in first thing the next morning to get checked. I didn't know how I would possibly make it through another night! When Derek got home we ate dinner (that my sweet cousin Heidi made for us) and decided to play a little Mario Kart to get my mind off of it. We started around 6:30 which is exactly when my contractions started to come 5 minutes apart. After driving off the Mario Kart track several times I decided to quit and focus on getting through the contractions. We called my brother to come and help give me another blessing so that I could somehow get comfortable enough to rest. By the time he was ready to leave our house I knew it was time to get to the hospital! I took a shower and got my bag and got in the car as fast as I possibly could...which isn't very fast when you're dying every 2 minutes! I told Derek he had about 5 minutes to get me to the hospital or else I really would die. On the way there I called my Dad, who was out of town, and Derek's Dad to let them know I was on my way to have the baby. I knew this was it.

When we arrived at the hospital the nurses took one good look at my make-up smeared face and knew I was in total agony. They grabbed me a wheelchair, rushed me to a room, got me in a gown and threw me in a bed. One of the nursed told me she knew I'd have the baby that night. I really didn't believe her because it was a 17 hour process with Linc. Anyway, I asked for an epidural right away but they insisted that I get an IV and get one bag of fluid in me before they'd even call the anesthesiologist. GRR! So, while I waited in pain, I had Derek working like mad to keep me comfortable. He got me warm blankets every so often to put on my hand where the IV was and he pushed my legs as hard as he could up to my stomach whenever I contracted. When the fluid was about empty the nurse called for my epidural. There were 3 woman ahead of me! I barely survived. The anesthesiologist finally came when I was at a 7! The epidural was slow to work and actually never fully worked on my left side, but it was enough to take the edge off. My Mom had been helping settle Linc down at home witht the twins and made it to the hospital around ten. She looked like an angel as she came in the room. There's nothing like having your Mom there when you're about ready to give birth! She took over Derek's job and let him relax for a bit.

Finally at about 10:45pm they broke my water. The Dr checked me and I was at a 9 so he quickly got everything ready and I was pushing by 11:25pm. The epidural makes me sick (but I'd rather be sick then in pain) so I pushed once and then felt like I was going to throw up. I knew I had no strength to push again so they sat me up and gave me a bowl on my next contraction. As I threw up, out shot little Carter...that easy!

He was perfect from the start! I love how warm babies are at first, and my favorite thing was to hold Carter to my chest and gaze into his beautiful eyes. What a sweet moment. It seems crazy, I know...I still can't believe it's real! Everyone keeps asking us if we were trying ALREADY for another one. Yes, yes we were. It took us a few months to get pregnant with Lincoln so we figured it would be the same...wrong. As Derek says to everyone, this one took about a day! But, even though it happened so soon, we are very excited! We heard the heartbeat last week. That really is one of the best sounds ever! And we even got to see the baby and a heartbeat the week before on an ultrasound...cute little thing. I am due October 31, making Lincoln and the new baby about 18 months apart. I've been fortunate this time around because I haven't been nearly as sick. I'm still nauseous during the day, but as long as I keep eating I'm in good shape. Now we just need to get Linc to sleep through the night. It's killing me! I'm so exhausted and he's still up all night! Actually it was 26 years ago in November, but since I quit blogging for a while, here it is! Lincoln and I met Derek at work for a quick lunch so we could wish him Happy Birthday. Later that night we met up with Carli and Corbin and some good friends Jason and Stefanie for some dinner at Derek's favorite place...Red Robin! It was fun to go out and and visit with friends and family. We went to the mall after and Derek found some shoes that he loves. It wasn't much, but it was great to be together.

Derek and Lincoln enjoying lunch together.

Eating dinner at Red Robin...what's so funny Corb?

That was the best we could do for a smile!

Carli and

Jason and Stef. Kids definately make any holiday more fun. Poor Lincoln had to get in his costume 10 times! It was worth it though. My mom made the cutest, most amazing monkey costume for him. He looked like a little stuffed monkey...so adorable! Thanks so much mom!!! We had a lot of stops to get to to show off the costume so we started on it a day early.

Our first stop was to Grandma and Grandpa B's house. Lucky us, we made it there to see Kris and Emily with Megan and Mark as well!

The next stop was the surgical center that my aunt LaRae works at. The ladies there couldn't get enough of him! They took turns holding him and letting him pick candy out of their treat bowls.

Since we were in the area, we headed over to Sharp's Tarps to see Grandpa Sharp, Brandt, and Jordan.

That evening we were invited to a Halloween party at my friend Tonya's house. By the end of the night, Linc was completely worn out.

On Halloween we got up bright and early and got ready for the day. We met Hayley and Maddox at iFreedom to visit the Derek and Derik and to partake of all the delicious homemade chili. We had fun toting the monkey and the lion (Maddox) around to all of the desks. It was good to see Derek and to give him to have a little bit of a break from work! I dressed up as a pirate and Derek was a complete redneck... our costumes did not match at all. Good thing there's many more Halloween's to come! The worst part about it is that my camera died right when we got to iFreedom so no pics of that! Grrr!

When Derek got off work we headed down to see Grandma and Grandpa Peterson and Candice and Cody. We had some homemade pizza and a chocolate Halloween cake. Derek thought it would be funny to smear cake all over Linc's face...
Later that evening we cruised back up to West Jordan to Grandma and Grandpa Sharp's house. It's a tradition that we get together to have soup and rolls. All of Linc's cousins were dressed so cute as well. It made me excited to take Lincoln out trick-or-treating next year!

THANKS AGAIN GRANDMA SHARP for the CUTEST MONKEY COSTUME! WE LOVE YOU!

Okay, so here's the deal... We entered Lincoln in "Jessica's Jack-O-Cuties" contest on 97.1's website. Link the person who tagged you http://hayleywelch.blogspot.com/

2. Post the rules on your blog

3. Write six random things about yourself

4. Let each person know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their website

Random things about the Peterson's...

1. Derek and I have been hooked on this card game called 'Nines'. It's so dang fun! Two of my older brothers introduced this game to us a while ago and we can't get enough of it. This past week and a half we've spent several nights playing on our bed right before we turn out the lights. Anyone who's up for a good time, let us know...we'll teach you and stay at your house playing until the wee hours of the morning! You'll like it too!

2. When Derek and I were dating we started this hand-squeezing thing . We would squeeze eachother's hands a certain amount of times and try to make the other person guess what we were "saying" with our squeeze... I know, so so cheesy! Anyway, we still continue to do it everytime we hold hands. Now we have our own secret hand-squeezing language!

3. Ever since Lincoln was born Derek has called him "the littlest bum". Kinda wierd, I know, and I couldn't figure out where he got that name or why he started calling him that. It wasn't until a few months ago that he let me in on his little secret. I was just going to explain what it meant, but as I'm typing this Derek says I can't blow Linc's secret identity. Some of you have already figured it out, but if you don't know where he got that name, you'll have to take it up with Derek. Sorry!

4. We do not like Cingular. We are seriously counting down the days until we are out of our contract...only 72 left! Sorry to all of you Cingular/AT&T lovers, but it has been nothing but trouble to us. We have gone through several phones, too expensive phone bills, lots of dropped calls, blah, blah, blah. We're thinking of either going back to Verizon, which we were on before, or to T-Mobile. What do you suggest?

5. We try to make it to California every year to see family and watch the Giants play. We LOVE San Francisco and Santa Rosa. We always get star treatment from Derek's Grandma's...they're amazing cooks. So the good food, mixed with a little golf, visiting, relaxing, shopping, baseball, Scrabble, and lots of laughs keep us dying to get back there. We've been 3 times since we were married and hope to be able to go back soon with Linc.

6. We really like Chinese food. We've actually become quite picky with our Chinese food selections. If we want inexpensive and fast we'll occasionally go to 'Panda', the next step up would be Pei Wei', a good and pretty nice place is 'Mandarin Palace', and if we want something divine and feel like spending a lot of money we'll hit up 'Asian Star'...the best! So all of you that love little cheap, hole-in-the wall Chinese places, we won't eat it with you...sorry!

I tag anyone who reads this!

So Blessed!

Lincoln Derek Peterson was blessed on June 22, 2008. It was such a perfect day. Derek gave Linc the most beautiful blessing I've ever heard...seriously. We had so many family and friends that traveled to support us on such a special day. After the blessing we went over to my parents house for a little luncheon. Thanks Mom and Dad for all the hard work you did to get ready for our big group. And thanks to everyone else for coming, and bringing food and gifts. It was so fun to see and visit with so many people!

Our little family

Grandma and Grandpa Sharp and Great-Grandma and Grandpa B

Grandma and Grandpa Peterson and Great-Grandma and Grandpa Peterson (thanks for coming so far to be with us on such a special day!

I'm the TOUGHEST...I got a SHOT!

Lincoln has been for his 2 month and 4 month Dr. appointments already. He is growing so fast! At his 2 month appointment he weighed 11 lbs 7 oz. His height, weight, and head wear all in the 50th percentile...just an average Joe! Lincoln did well with his first shots. He cried, but I was able to feed him right away and calm him down. We watched him close for the next 48 hours and he did really well recovering. Derek and I had a hard time watching him go through that so Derek felt the need to get Lincoln a sticker to wear that day. It said, "You think you're tough, I'm the toughtest...I got a shot!" So cute!Sporting the sticker that Derek got for him. He doesn't look like the happiest camper!

The shots absolutely wore him out!

This is what the Dr. said about Lincoln at 4 months:

Weight: 15 lbs 8 0z...60th percentile

Height: 26 in...88th percentile

And I can't remember his head, but it was still in the 50th percentile. The funny thing about the whole thing is that he is considered "tall and skinny" because of the difference in his height and weight, but most would beg to differ. Lincoln's second round of shots was a bit tougher on him. He would only sleep if I held him, and even then it was just off and on. We decided to have a kick-back day after that rough night. I wanted to find Lincoln some comfy clothes to relax in. This is what we came up with:

A friend of mine gave him these baby scrubs...so so cute huh?!

He was so mellow and cuddly all day!

We're so happy to have a happy, healthy baby. I appreciate you so much. You are an amazing husband and father and provider! I love you! Also, Happy Father's Day to
Dad: Thanks for being such a great example. I'm so glad you're my Dad. You're such a wonderful Grandpa to Lincoln as well. And Happy Birthday!
Robert: You raised such a great man. Thanks for always making me feel so welcome in the family, and for being an awesome Grandpa!
This past Father's Day was great! We started off by heading to American Fork for little Maddox's blessing. What a special day for him and his family. Then we headed over to the Peterson's to wish the Dad's there a Happy Father's Day. Lucky for us, Grandma and Grandpa Peterson were in town. It was such a treat to see them and introduce them to Lincoln. After that we cruised to Centerville to celebrate the rest of the day with my family. We had a delicious dinner at the Brey's home and were able to visit outside in the warm weather. Then we went over to Brandt and Kelly's house to celebrate my Dad's Birthday. When we got home, Derek opened a new pair of jeans and some shoes to wear with them. It was a busy day, but so much fun!

The Peterson Boys

Close Cousins

Lincoln's cousin Trevor is just a month older than him. Once a week we get together with Hayley and Maddox, and Britney and Dax for a playdate! We trade off hosting eachother at our homes. We visit, eat, play with babies, eat, go on walks, eat...! It's nice to talk to someone who's in your same boat, and share the things we are learning as we're all new moms. So, I guess the playdates are more for us girls right now, but I'm sure the babies will appreciate them more down the road. Occasionaly the dads (Derek, Derik, and Greg) meet up with us after work and we get to hang out with them too. We hope this continues forever! Hayley and I with Maddox and Lincoln

Daxton, Maddox, and Lincoln at playdate (as you can see, Linc was in the colicky stage)

A Real Mother

This Mother's Day was the best! Derek gave me some new shoes and a new pair of jeans...something I really wanted after the pregnancy! Even though Linc was only 2 1/2 weeks old, I really wanted to go to church for a little bit. Derek and I took Lincoln and sat in the very back during Sacrament Meeting. I loved listening to the talks. They all touched me so much, especially since I was a new Mom. At the end of the meeting we snuck out and headed down to Lehi to celebrate with Derek's family. Carolyn, we love you and are grateful for the wonderful Mom and Grandma you are! I got a cute picture board for Linc's room from Derek's parents and a framed picture of Lincoln from Derek's sister Candice...so fun! After dinner at the Peterson's, we came back to West Jordan to wish my Mom a Happy Mother's Day. Mom, once again, you're the best! I love and appreciate you so much! I hope I can be the best Mom, like you! I'm so thankful for the oppurtunity I have to be a real Mom now!

A Splishin' and a Splashin'

Lincoln has always loved bathtime. We started putting him in the sink for a bath, then quickly grew into his baby tub. Since that didn't give him enough room to kick and splash we are into the big tub now. I'm so glad he likes the water! It really has been a lifesaver. When Linc gets fussy we just throw him in the tub and he calms right down. He even loves and occasional shower with his Daddy! And at the end of it all, he can't wait to get wrapped up tight and cuddled! That's my favorite part!

Who's The Boss?!

Lincoln's first couple of weeks home.

We were so happy to finally be home with our little babe. It was like playing house for the first few days. My mom came and stayed for an entire week! Thanks again Mom...I couldn't have done without you! It was so nice to have some extra help and someone to show me the ropes of mommyhood (feeding, changing, bathing, sleeping). Baby's are a lot of work! Linc's first two week were a breeze. I couldn't stop bragging about how good of an eater and a sleeper he was. I guess he was just preparing us for what was to come because at the two week mark Lincoln decided he needed to show Derek and I who's boss. He had two months where his agenda was eat, sleep, and cry. He told us when to stand, sit, sleep, eat, hang out with people....everything was on L-time! We spent many hours (and dollars) driving in the middle of the day AND night so that Lincoln would calm down and go to sleep. I felt so bad not knowing what to do to help the poor little guy. I am so grateful to family and friends who stepped in to help with meals and to just hold Lincoln so I could clean or even just rest!

So the guy who wrote "The Happiest Baby on the Block" is amazing! That book seriously saved my life. It gives 5 simple techniques (swaddling, sucking, side/stomach, swinging, shhhing) to help calm a colicky baby. I used and still use all of them and would recommend that book to EVERY mom with a newborn...colic or not! Linc's colic stopped pretty much overnight when he reached 2 months...it's been awesome! We still use all the techniques from the book to help settle him down at fussy times and to help get him to sleep at night.

Although being a mom is the hardest job in the world, it's the most exciting job as well. It's been so fun to spend each day with Lincoln as he learns and grows. It seems like he picks up on something new or becomes more alert and aware everyday. Derek is such a great dad too. He counts down the minutes left in his work day so he can rush home to see his "bubba". There is so much love in our home and we enjoy spending time together as a family. Our lives are so much more meaningful and fulfilling!

Our Beautiful Baby Boy Has Arrived!

Lincoln Derek Peterson was born at 6:20 am on April 23. What a long night! I had Derek and my mom stay with me in the room during the delivery. It was such a cool experience to have my mom with us to share such an exciting time (plus she was a ton of help...feeding me ice chips and holding the oxygen mask). Thanks Mom! The Lincolnator weighed in at 8 lbs. 3 oz. and was 20 1/2 in. long...not a very small first baby. When he came out he gave a little yell and then just lay there wide-eyed, checking out his new surroundings. I will never forget the joy I felt to see my healthy, beautiful little baby. I would give anything to go back to that first moment as he lay on my belly, staring up at Derek and I. We were the proudest, most happy parents ever! I lost quite a bit of blood during the delivery so our Dr. wanted us to stay an extra day in the hospital. It was actually kind of nice to have that added rest and help before we headed home with our little bundle. We enjoyed having so many friends and family come to visit us (and to eat with Derek in the delicious hospital cafe)! Lincoln was a little jaundice so he had to spend an entire day in a bed with lights. Luckily he was able to stay in the room with us. We cherished the few times we were able to take him out! Oh, another crazy thing...Linc was tongue-tied when he was born, meaning he had this little piece of skin connecting the front of his tongue to the bottom of his mouth. This made it hard, well impossible, for him to suck. In fact, he would just chomp instead! On Saturday morning he went in and had is tongue clipped before we headed home. He was so brave during the little procedure and has been a champion eater ever since! We loved the experience we had and the memories we made as we brought a precious baby into the world. We love him more than anything!

Our new little family.

Linc scrunching up his face as he gets his head measured.

Grandma and Grandpa B were some of our first visitors. I had just been to a Dr. appt earlier that day and had come home to get the rest of the baby's room set up. My mom came over to help and we decided to go grab some lunch at Pei Wei and then hit Babies R Us to grab a crib matress and burp cloths...the last two things I needed to feel ready! Halfway through our dining experience I had a super hard contraction. Then 9 minutes later another one came. Not close enough! But the next one came 7 minutes later, then 5, then 3, and then they came 2 minutes apart! I insisted on heading over to Babies R Us (my mom wasn't thrilled) so I could feel fully prepared. By the time we left the store I could barely walk and I gave Derek a call to tell him to meet us over at IMC (the new hospital in Murray). We made it to the hospital...barely. Kidding. I was in labor for a whopping 17 hours. I took the epidural route so I could relax until the baby came. That wasn't happening either. I was sick through the entire labor (don't have Pei Wei if you think you might go into labor soon), and it took them 5 hours to find a Dr. who could stop in to break my water! Luckily I have great family who came to the hospital to hang out...but, unfortunately they had a sleepless night out in the waiting room. Finally at 5:15 am Dr. Peterson showed up to get that baby comin'!

I'm Getting Started...For Real This Time!

Okay, I've decided it's really time to start my blog and keep it updated! I get so annoyed when I go through other people's blogs and they never update, yet this is my first post after having a blog set up for 9 months! I decided a good starting place would be Lincoln's birth since that's where all my picture-taking started! It might take me a while to catch up to now since that was 3 months ago, but be patient...especially if you see me all the time and know what we're up to anyway!
